The Bank of Industry Headquarters is a office building in Abuja, the Federal capital of Nigeria. Inspired by the shape of the human eye, the curved floor plate allows the office spaces revolve around a central atrium, which connects the floors visually and doubles as a stack effect chimney to improve air movement through the building. Operable windows on both sides of the floor-plate and the skylight also allow for cross ventilation throughout the building.
The corners of the building sit on the North – South axis. Fins extend from the floor slab, providing some solar shade to the full glass facade. An expanded mesh screen adds an additional decorative layer which also protects the glazed facade. Designed to sustainable principles, the internal design was also subject to stringent space planning procedures to ensure maximum use of the space, day lighting and service areas.
